Guide to Replacing a BMS-EX on-site

This guide details the necessary steps to replace a BMS-EX on-site while preserving the data and settings from the BMS to be replaced.

1. Minimum Requirements

  • Old BMS must be EX series.
  • Old BMS must be online and visible on the logger.
  • Old BMS firmware version is 202 or greater. Update if necessary.
  • Logger software version is V9.121 or greater (update if necessary).

2. Replacement

  • The old BMS may now be removed, and the new BMS installed in its place.
  • Verify the BMS is securely installed and that all connectors are seated correctly.
  • After switching the new BMS on, it should start up and remain in an error state until the replacement process has been completed via the wizard. The CANBUS 1 interface on the new BMS should show activity (blinking green LEDs).

3. Configuration

  • Navigate to MyPower24 → My Devices → Li-ion Storage EX Series. Click on the orange service alert icon. (*1)
  • A dialog box will tell you that the logger has detected a replacement BMS. Click to continue. (*2)
  • A dialog box will open asking you to type in the serial number of the BMS that was replaced. Once populated, click complete. (*3)
  • Once the process is complete, the battery will appear online.
  • The old BMS should be returned to SolarMD.
